Shopping in Bayfield – Stimulate Mind, Body, and Soul in an Old Brownstone
Isaac's family has lived in Bayfield for over 100 years. Originally, commercial fishermen, they have also worked as:
Loggers
Servicemen
Lighthouse keepers
Carpenters
Entrepreneurs

So it's no surprise when Isaac's younger brother, Matt, followed suit and bought a turn-of-the-century brownstone building. In 2020, Matt and his wife purchased the old All Wood Manufacturing building on the corner of 2nd Street and Manypenny Avenue. Over the last 2 years, they’ve been working hard at restoring a piece of history. Here they’ve created spaces for makers who want to bring the experience of shopping in Bayfield to the next level.
The All Wood Manufacturing building is now home to a unique blend of shops that exist to stimulate your mind, move your body, and touch your soul. Each has special offerings not always found when shopping in a “tourist town.”
You won’t find:
Golden spoons that have Bayfield engraved on them
T-shirts with cheesy sayings
Plates with Bayfield landscapes painted on them
Like many of the businesses in town, these are value-based businesses owned by hard-working men and women wanting to leave a positive mark on the people who are shopping in Bayfield.

Honest Dog Books
Honest Dog Books is a new and used general interest bookstore in Bayfield. Its space is located just off 2nd Street and has served as a used bookstore for decades.
New owners Charlie Ray and Julie Buckles purchased the bookstore in 2019. Since then, they’ve been creating a bookstore experience that reflects their name.
To them, Honest Dog Books is a spin-off of their experience as long-time mushers. An honest dog is someone who works hard, digs in, and never gives up.
Using this philosophy in their bookstore, you'll find selections reflecting:
Their love of dogs
Regional favorites
Native American history and the Anishinaabe heritage
Outdoor Adventures
…and more.
They also have membership programs, including “Surprise Me” and “Pick-of-the-Month” selections, so you can have an ongoing piece of Bayfield long after you leave.

Enjoy One-of-A-Kind Shopping in Bayfield When Staying at Seagull Bay
When the All Wood Manufacturing building was built, its builders couldn’t have foreseen its space being used in other ways than sawing lumber.
But as our little town has transformed over the years, so has shopping in Bayfield. And just as All Woods Manufacturing was an integral piece of Bayfield's industry in the early 1900s, its space now lends itself to local residents and tourists.
When All Woods was at the height of production, it would load lumber from its lumber yard onto railway cars. They would carry its lumber from Bayfield to places across the Midwest. The railroad tracks leading from Bayfield crossed in front of the Seagull Bay Motel and Bay West properties.
The railroad tracks are gone, but the railroad grade still follows the shoreline of Lake Superior in front of Seagull Bay and is now called The Brownstone Trail.
When staying at Seagull Bay, take a walk out of the front door of your room directly onto The Brownstone Trail. From here, follow it into town and let it lead you to the old All Woods Manufacturing building where you can:
Take a yoga class
Find a new novel
Create a new piece of artwork
Nourish your body from the inside out
Shopping in Bayfield is a much more fulfilling experience than browsing generic souvenir and t-shirt shops. This is where you come to be inspired by the view from your room, Lake Superior, The Apostle Islands, and its rich history.
BOOK NOW, and let us help you create a vacation experience you won’t forget.
Enjoy the View!
